Mt. Cuba Center, a non-profit botanical garden, which has growing conditions
similar to Bowie’s is located near Wilmington, Delaware.
Mt. Cuba is known for its diverse gardens, horticultural research and study of
eastern North American flora.
Mt. Cuba’s has a collection of over 6,500 documented plants in a
variety of gardens ranging from formal to natural. The gardens include native
plant meadows, woodlands and ponds, and non-native planting. The Center’s
focus is on restoration and conservation through science-based research
projects and collaboration.
Advanced research in evaluating plants for pollinators and landscape
gardening is done at Mt. Cuba. Many of the plants from North Creek Nursery
that the Garden Club sells at the Plant Sale were evaluated at Mt. Cuba.
The Garden Club has arranged admission to Mt. Cuba and a guided
tour of Mt. Cuba’s research and evaluations work on August 18, for $12 per
person. However, to hold the date and guarantee the tour, the Club must
have a minimum of 10 paid people by Tuesday, July 31.
Register to visit Mt. Cuba now by making a check payable to B-C
Garden Club and bringing it to the Garden Club meeting on June 26 or July
31. Alternatively, you can mail your check to the Bowie-Crofton Garden Club,
PO Box 781, Bowie, MD 20718. Your check must be received by July 31.
